Some mind-blowing facts that sound like 'BS', but are actually true. (note: I didn't verify them)

  1. We are just as close to 2030 as we are to 2004.
  2. Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire.
  3. Rome is further north than New York City.
  4. Maine is the closest US state to Africa.
  5. Cleopatra lived further away from the Great Pyramids being built than the iPhone being invented.
  6. Norway and North Korea are only separated by Russia.
  7. There is an actual Put Your Pillow on Your Fridge Day, which is supposed to bring good luck and wealth.
  8. The word “oxymoron” is an oxymoron. Oxy means sharp and moros means stupid (Greek origin).
  9. Take Your Houseplants for a Walk Day is celebrated on July 27, where people walk their plants so they can get to know their environment, which according to believers gives the plants a sense of familiarity with where they are.
  10. The current American flag was designed by a high school student for a project. He got a B- on the assignment.
  11. 38 million gallons were drained from a reservoir in Portland, Oregon, in 2014 because someone peed in it.
  12. 1,000 (one thousand) is the first number to contain the letter a.

Point 2 is actually not "so" mindblowing. It's a historic fact that the Aztec empire's first manifestations were as late as about early 13th century when early migrant from Azatan, presumibly located somewhere at north or north-west of current Mexico, settled in the area of current Mexico City. The proper Aztec Empire was quite young at the time of Spanish conquest; it started to rule in 1428.

Sometimes we tend to mix up Aztecs with the Mayan Empire, a much older civilization ocupying part of Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras, even reaching the terrirory of Costa Rica, which collapsed much before the Aztecs appeared..

The University of Oxford (informally Oxford University or simply Oxford) is a collegiate research university located in Oxford, England. It has no known date of foundation, but there is evidence of teaching as far back as 1096,making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world's second-oldest university in continuous operation.

So, obviously, Oxford is really MUCH older than the Aztec Empire.

As for point 11, Google search returned this info (among others)

Draining reservoir after urination incident shows tenuous grasp of science!

So, even if it sounds crazy, the "incident" was 100% true! Looks that actually 2014 was the SECOND time they flushed Mount Tabor reservoir after a urine-related incident.
